AI30 Standard: the practical dry ice blasting machine for shop and restoration work

The AIOLITH AI30 is the standard dry ice blasting setup for buyers who want full cleaning performance without the extra long hose kit. It includes the same AI30 machine platform, 44 lb dry ice hopper, anti-clogging feed system, rust-resistant unibody housing, 5 interchangeable nozzles, and a standard 13 ft blasting hose for close-control cleaning around vehicles, molds, benches, equipment, and production tools.

  • Best for close-range control: the 13 ft hose is easier to manage when you are working around engine bays, wheels, undercarriages, worktables, molds, rollers, and compact shop equipment.
  • 44 lb hopper for fewer refills: supports long cleaning sessions while keeping dry ice flow stable across detail work and larger surfaces.
  • Anti-clogging dry ice feed: designed to keep 3 mm dry ice pellets moving smoothly, reducing interruptions during real jobs.
  • Waterless, residue-free cleaning: dry ice sublimates on impact, leaving no water runoff and no chemical residue to clean up afterward.
  • Five nozzles included: switch from wide-area cleaning to narrow access work without buying a separate nozzle set.

Choose AI30 if most of your work happens within one bay

AI30 is the better choice when the machine can stay close to the cleaning area and you prefer lighter hose handling. It is ideal for auto repair shops, restoration garages, small manufacturing teams, print shops, maintenance departments, and users who want a professional dry ice blaster without paying for reach they do not use every day.

  • Choose AI30 Standard for engines, wheels, molds, tooling, benches, rollers, compact equipment, and general shop maintenance.
  • Choose AI30 Plus instead if you often clean large trucks, industrial tanks, elevated ductwork, production lines, or equipment where moving the machine repeatedly slows the job down.

Before you buy: air compressor, dry air, and dry ice requirements

Dry ice blasting performance depends on the air system as much as the machine. Before ordering, confirm that your shop can supply stable compressed air and dry 3 mm pellets.

  • Compressed air pressure: 87-116 psi (0.6-0.8 MPa), adjustable.
  • Compressed air flow: 71-141 CFM (2-4 m³/min). Use a compressor that can sustain the required CFM during continuous blasting, not just reach the pressure briefly.
  • Recommended compressor setup: at least 7.5 kW / 10 HP with a 150 gal or larger tank for stable operation.
  • Dry air supply: use a refrigerated air dryer, aftercooler, moisture separator, or equivalent drying setup. Wet compressed air can freeze, weaken impact, and increase clogging risk.
  • Dry ice pellets: use fresh 3 mm or smaller dry ice pellets. Store dry ice in an insulated container and load only what you can use during the job.
  • Work area: keep the space ventilated and use proper PPE. Dry ice turns into CO₂ gas during cleaning.

Five nozzles for different cleaning patterns

  • 45 mm (Ø1.77”) width | 22 cm (8.7”) length: fast coverage for large flat surfaces such as molds, panels, tables, and equipment covers.
  • 26 mm (Ø1”) width | 26 cm (10.2”) length: balanced everyday nozzle for general industrial cleaning and mixed surfaces.
  • 7 mm (Ø0.28”) width | 27 cm (10.6”) length (angled tip): reaches corners, angled surfaces, brackets, and areas that are hard to approach straight on.
  • 7 mm (Ø0.28”) width | 28 cm (11”) length: precise cleaning for details, seams, small parts, and sensitive components.
  • 7 mm (Ø0.28”) width | 30 cm (11.8”) length: helps clean deeper cavities, narrow channels, and recessed areas.

Start with lower pressure and a narrower dry ice output on sensitive surfaces, then increase gradually after testing a small area. Nozzle choice affects cleaning speed, pellet impact, and surface safety.

Common AI30 applications

  • Automotive repair and restoration: engine bays, undercarriages, wheels, suspension parts, interiors, adhesives, grease, and carbon buildup with less disassembly.
  • Manufacturing and tooling: molds, fixtures, tooling, conveyors, worktables, and equipment housings where water or chemical residue is not acceptable.
  • Printing and packaging: rollers, gears, ink buildup, paper dust, and production grime while reducing downtime.
  • Food and beverage equipment: residue-free cleaning for belts, trays, filling equipment, and production contact areas where chemical cleanup is a concern.
  • Electronics and precision parts: dust and residue removal when moisture-free cleaning is required. Always test first and protect delicate assemblies.

FAQs

Q1: Which industries and applications is the AIOLITH AI30 dry ice blaster most suitable for?

A: AI30 is commonly used for engine cleaning, food processing equipment, printing presses, molds, production machinery, and electrical systems. It removes grease, carbon buildup, ink, adhesives, and other residues without water, chemicals, or secondary waste.

For industry-specific examples and cleaning applications, visit our Dry Ice Blasting Applications Guide.

Q2: What air compressor specifications are required to operate the AI30?

A: Because dry ice blasting relies on high-velocity air stream to accelerate the pellets, a robust air compressor setup is required. We recommend:

  1. Compressor Power: Minimum 10 HP (7.5 kW).
  2. Air Tank Capacity: Minimum 150 gallons to maintain steady pressure.
  3. Airflow & Pressure: A stable output of 71 to 141 CFM at 87 to 116 PSI (0.6 - 0.8 MPa).

Crucial Recommendation: We strongly advise utilizing an air dryer with your setup. Moisture in the compressed air can freeze inside the hopper, causing clogs. Check out our Air Compressor & Setup Guide for details.

Q3: How much dry ice does the AI30 consume, and where can I buy it?

A: The AI30 features a large 44 lbs (20 kg) hopper capacity, which supports up to 90 minutes of continuous blasting. The dry ice consumption rate is adjustable, ranging from 0.66 to 1.32 lbs/min (0.3 - 0.6 kg/min) depending on the thickness of the contaminant.

  • Ice Pellet Size: The machine requires standard 3mm dry ice pellets (or smaller micro-pellets).
  • Sourcing: You can purchase 3mm industrial dry ice pellets from local gas suppliers (like Airgas, Linde, or Praxair), dry ice wholesalers, or major welding supply retail outlets. It is recommended to buy fresh dry ice close to your scheduled cleaning time to minimize sublimation loss.
Q4: How does dry ice blasting compare to traditional sandblasting or chemical solvent cleaning?

A: Dry ice blasting offers three major advantages for professional shops:

  1. No Secondary Waste: Dry ice pellets sublimate (turn directly from solid to gas) on impact. The only clean-up is the contaminant itself—no sand, water, or toxic chemicals to dispose of.
  2. Non-Abrasive: It does not scratch or wear down molds, polished metal surfaces, or delicate components.
  3. No Disassembly Needed: Since it is completely dry and non-conductive, you can clean machinery, engines, and electrical components in-place, drastically reducing equipment downtime.
Q5: Can I add other abrasives (like sand or walnut shells) to the AI30 hopper?

A:No.The AI30 is designed exclusively for dry ice pellets. Adding sand, walnut shells, glass beads, or other abrasive media may damage the feeding system and void the warranty.

If your application requires aggressive rust removal or abrasive blasting media, consider the AI50 Dry Ice Blasting Machine, which is better suited for heavy-duty industrial cleaning and surface preparation.

Q6: What is AIOLITH's warranty and return policy for the AI30?

A: We offer a 1-year manufacturer warranty covering all major functional parts. For quality-related issues or shipping damages, we support free returns and replacements within 30 days of delivery.

  • Please Note: Due to the heavy-duty industrial nature of the AI30 (weight: 218 lbs), we do not accept returns for non-quality reasons (buyer remorse) due to high freight logistics costs. Please verify your compressed air supply meets our specs before ordering.
