Industrial Dry Ice Blaster Buying Guide: How to Match Output, Airflow and Application

What Makes a Dry Ice Blaster “Industrial”?

Industrial dry ice blasting is not defined by one horsepower number or one pressure rating. The right system must match contamination type, cleaning frequency, required output, air supply, working reach and site conditions.

A heavy production environment may need substantially more dry ice output and compressed air than a detailing shop or maintenance department. Buying the largest machine is not automatically the best choice.

1. Start With the Cleaning Boundary

Dry ice blasting is effective for contamination such as grease, oils, carbon buildup, adhesives, ink and production residue. Pure dry ice blasting is generally non-abrasive and does not create an anchor profile. Deeply pitted structural rust or aggressive coating removal may require abrasive blasting or an abrasive-ready system.

2. Match Airflow and Pressure to the Machine

Compressed-air requirements are model-specific. Do not generalize one CFM or PSI range to every industrial machine, and do not select the compressor from horsepower alone.

Model Pressure Airflow Guidance
AI30 87–116 PSI 71–141 CFM machine demand; about 80 CFM practical minimum and 90–120 CFM recommended for regular indoor use
AI30 Plus 87–116 PSI 71–141 CFM machine demand; 90+ CFM minimum for indoor use, with more reserve preferred for the 26 ft hose
AI50 116–232 PSI 175 CFM minimum; 200–400 CFM recommended

3. Choose Output Around the Workload

The AI30 feeds 0.66–1.32 lb/min and is aimed at light-to-medium professional cleaning. The AI50 delivers up to 5.5 lb/min and is intended for heavier industrial cleaning and abrasive-ready applications.

4. Hose Reach Changes the Air-Supply Requirement

The AI30 includes a 13 ft blasting hose. If a job requires more reach around trucks, large machinery or fixed production equipment, the AI30 Plus adds a 26 ft hose. Longer hose runs create additional pressure loss, so additional airflow reserve is preferred.

5. Air Quality Is Part of the System

Hot or moisture-laden compressed air can contribute to dry ice clumping and feed instability. Depending on the compressor and environment, use suitable cooling, moisture separation, drying and filtration.

AI30 Technical Reference

Price $3,099
Hopper 44 lb (20 kg)
Output 0.66–1.32 lb/min
Pellets 3 mm or smaller
Blasting Hose 13 ft
Nozzles 5 included
Dimensions 28 × 24 × 37 in
Weight 135 lb

When the AI50 Is the Better Choice

Move to AI50 when the work genuinely requires higher dry ice throughput, high-flow industrial air, or abrasive-media capability. Confirm that the site can provide at least 175 CFM and 116 PSI before recommending it.

Conclusion

An industrial dry ice blaster should be selected from the application backward: contamination, substrate, duty cycle, air supply, reach and required output. Confirm CFM and PSI first, then choose the machine.
