AI30 Dry Ice Blaster: What It Cleans & What It Cannot
Updated August 2026
What the AI30 Dry Ice Blaster Is Designed to Clean
The AI30 dry ice blaster is a portable, non-abrasive dry ice cleaning system for professional automotive, maintenance, molds, tooling, printing, packaging and other light-to-medium industrial applications. It removes contamination through compressed-air acceleration, thermal shock and dry ice sublimation rather than by mechanically cutting the substrate.
That distinction matters: the AI30 is a contamination-removal tool, not a substitute for every abrasive blasting process.
Current AI30 Specifications
| Specification | AI30 |
|---|---|
| Power | 110 V / 60 Hz |
| Hopper | 44 lb (20 kg) |
| Dry Ice Output | 0.66–1.32 lb/min (0.3–0.6 kg/min) |
| Pellet Size | 3 mm or smaller |
| Working Pressure | 87–116 PSI |
| Machine Air Demand | 71–141 CFM |
| Practical Indoor Compressor Minimum | About 80 CFM |
| Recommended Indoor Airflow | About 90–120 CFM for regular use |

Compressor selection should be based on sustained CFM and PSI, not horsepower alone.
Applications the AI30 Handles Well
Grease, Oil and Shop Contamination
Dry ice blasting can remove grease, oil films, road grime and other contamination from machinery and vehicle components without adding water to the work area.
Adhesives, Ink and Production Residue
Printing rollers, packaging equipment, labels, glue residue, fixtures and production tooling are common applications when the underlying surface should not be aggressively abraded.
Molds and Tooling
Dry ice blasting can be useful for removing mold release residue, carbonized buildup and production contamination while preserving the underlying tooling surface. Test settings on sensitive materials first.
Food and Packaging Equipment
The waterless process can reduce secondary cleanup, but every facility must still follow its own sanitation, food-contact and safety procedures.
What the AI30 Is Not Designed to Do
Heavy Structural Rust
Pure dry ice blasting is non-abrasive. It can expose corrosion by removing contamination over it, but it is not intended to excavate deeply pitted structural rust.
Surface Profiling
If a coating process requires a defined anchor profile, abrasive blasting or another surface-preparation method is normally required.
Heavy Paint or Coating Removal at Industrial Scale
For demanding rust, paint, thick coatings or abrasive work, evaluate the AI50, which is abrasive-ready and designed for higher-output industrial cleaning.
Air Supply: The Most Common Buying Mistake
The AI30’s stated machine air-demand range is 71–141 CFM at 87–116 PSI. For regular indoor use, about 80 CFM is the practical minimum and 90–120 CFM is a stronger target. For outdoor/mobile use, about 125 CFM at 125 PSI is the minimum practical starting point and 185 CFM provides more reserve.
Use dry, clean compressed air. Depending on the compressor and humidity, an aftercooler, refrigerated dryer, moisture separator or filtration may be needed.
FAQ
Can the AI30 remove heavy rust?
Not as a pure dry ice system. It can clean contamination from a rusted surface and reveal corrosion, but deeply bonded rust or surface profiling usually requires abrasive preparation.
Does the AI30 require a 10 HP compressor?
Do not size the compressor from horsepower alone. Check sustained CFM at the required PSI. Use about 80 CFM as the practical indoor minimum and 90–120 CFM as the recommended range for regular indoor use.
What is the hopper capacity?
44 lb (20 kg).
Bottom Line
The AI30 is strongest where buyers need waterless, non-abrasive contamination removal and already have or can provide an appropriate compressed-air supply. If the job depends on aggressive rust, coating removal or abrasive surface preparation, choose a different process or evaluate AI50.
