Why Can Floor Scrubbers With Similar Specs Have Different Prices?

Why Can Floor Scrubbers With Similar Headline Specs Have Different Prices?

Two floor scrubbers can share the same working width or similar rated productivity and still differ in operating format, tank capacity, battery system, construction, included accessories, service path and total ownership cost.

A purchase decision should therefore compare the complete current configuration rather than assuming that two machines with one or two matching specifications are equivalent.

1. Compare Verified Machine Construction

The current AIOLITH AF2217 product page describes a heavy-duty HDPE body with a rust-proof, impact-resistant design. The current page does not publish a tank wall thickness, individual tank weight, virgin-versus-recycled resin percentage or a guaranteed tank lifespan.

When comparing machines, ask each supplier for the current documented construction, operating limits, replacement-part availability and written warranty terms instead of relying on unsupported material-grade or lifespan claims.

2. Compare the Drive System

AF2217 is a self-propelled walk-behind scrubber. Powered traction moves the machine forward while the operator walks behind and steers it.

This is operationally different from a standard walk-behind machine that requires more pushing effort. For longer commercial routes, the value of powered traction should be judged by an actual route trial and operator workload—not by motor wattage that is not listed on the current PDP.

3. Compare Current AF2217 Specifications

Specification Current AF2217 Value
Machine Type Self-Propelled Walk-Behind
Working Width 22 in
Solution / Recovery Tank 16 / 17 gal
Published Maximum Productivity Up to 38,000 ft²/h
Runtime Up to 4 hours
Brush Pressure 88 lb
Battery 24V 100Ah lithium
Battery Cycle Specification 5,000+ charge cycles

Published productivity and runtime are maximum specifications. Real route output depends on turns, overlap, traffic, floor condition, solution use, refill and drain stops, battery condition and operator workflow.

4. Compare the Battery System Without Assuming Chemistry Details

The current AF2217 product page identifies a 24V 100Ah lithium battery with a smart BMS, 5,000+ charge cycles and opportunity charging. It does not identify a specific lithium chemistry on the current PDP, so the battery should not be labeled LiFePO4 in a current product-specification comparison unless that chemistry is documented in the applicable product materials.

The 5,000+ cycle figure is a cycle specification, not a guaranteed calendar lifespan. Actual service life depends on charging practice, depth of discharge, temperature, storage, route load and battery condition.

5. Compare What Is Included

The current AF2217 standard package includes the machine, cleaning brush, squeegee blades, lithium battery, charger and manual. A pad-kit configuration adds a 21-inch pad driver and floor buffing pads.

When comparing prices, verify whether the competing quote includes the same battery, charger, accessories, freight, training, support and consumables. A lower machine-only price is not directly comparable with a more complete configuration.

6. Compare Support, Parts and Downtime Risk

Parts availability and technical support affect the cost of keeping commercial cleaning equipment in service. Confirm current replacement-part availability, troubleshooting resources, service process and written warranty terms before purchase.

No machine should be presented as eliminating downtime. Downtime can result from charging, wear parts, misuse, damage, maintenance or component failure.

7. Calculate Total Cost of Ownership Using the Same Assumptions

Use the same facility assumptions for every machine:

  • Current purchase price and configuration
  • Freight and delivery
  • Measured route time and labor rate
  • Battery and charger
  • Brushes, pads and squeegee wear items
  • Energy and cleaning solution
  • Maintenance and parts
  • Downtime
  • Written warranty and support terms

Total cost of ownership is facility-specific. Do not assume that a more expensive machine automatically saves money, or that a cheaper machine automatically fails sooner. Compare documented specifications and actual operating results.

AF2217 Buying Checklist

  1. Confirm the current 22-inch working width and 16/17-gallon tank configuration.
  2. Confirm that self-propelled traction provides a meaningful benefit on the actual route.
  3. Compare the up-to-38,000-ft²/h rating with a timed site route.
  4. Plan around up to 4 hours of runtime and the facility’s charging window.
  5. Use the 24V 100Ah lithium and 5,000+ cycle specifications as battery facts, not a fixed-year lifespan promise.
  6. Verify what is included in each quote.
  7. Review current parts, support and warranty terms.

Bottom Line

A meaningful price comparison goes beyond cleaning width or a single headline specification. For AF2217, the current verified differentiators include self-propelled operation, 16/17-gallon tanks, 88 lb brush pressure, a 24V 100Ah lithium system with 5,000+ charge cycles, and an up-to-38,000-ft²/h published productivity rating.

Compare those facts with the exact competing configuration and your facility’s route before deciding whether a price difference is justified.
