AI30 Industrial Dry Ice Blaster: Applications, Limits and Air Requirements

The AIOLITH AI30 can be used in industrial cleaning, but it is not the right machine for every industrial job. Its strongest fit is light-to-medium contamination removal where portability, dry cleaning and lower air demand are more important than maximum throughput or abrasive surface preparation.

AI30: Current Working Specifications

Specification AI30
Hopper 44 lb (20 kg)
Dry Ice Output 0.66–1.32 lb/min
Pellet Size 3 mm or smaller
Working Pressure 87–116 PSI
Machine Air Demand 71–141 CFM
Standard Blasting Hose 13 ft
Process Dry-ice-only; not abrasive-ready

Where AI30 Fits Well

AI30 is a practical fit when the cleaning objective is contamination removal rather than surface profiling. Typical examples include:

  • Grease and oil on machinery
  • Adhesive and hot-melt residue
  • Carbon buildup
  • Printing ink and production residue
  • Molds and tooling
  • Automotive and restoration cleaning
  • Packaging equipment
  • Maintenance cleaning around complex geometry

Where AI30 Is Usually Not the Right Choice

AI30 should not be selected for deeply pitted structural rust, heavy coating removal, aggressive paint stripping or applications that require an anchor profile. Pure dry ice blasting is generally non-abrasive and the AI30 is not designed to feed abrasive media.

For these jobs, compare a dedicated abrasive process or an abrasive-ready system such as the AI50.

The Compressor Is Often the Real Bottleneck

AI30 performance depends on sustained compressed-air supply. The machine demand range is 71–141 CFM at 87–116 PSI. About 80 CFM can be a practical minimum for regular indoor use, while roughly 90–120 CFM around 100 PSI provides a stronger working range for many professional applications.

Do not size a compressor from horsepower alone. Compare delivered CFM at the required PSI and account for hose losses, air treatment and duty cycle. See the compressor guide.

Industrial Duty Cycle: Ask How Long You Will Actually Blast

“Industrial” does not automatically mean continuous all-day blasting. A maintenance team may use the machine for short cleaning windows, tool changes or shutdown tasks. A contract cleaner or production facility may need much longer continuous operation.

Estimate trigger-on time per shift, not just total shift length. Then compare dry ice consumption, compressor capacity and operator workflow against that duty cycle.

Dry Ice Logistics Matter

A machine cannot deliver consistent output if the pellets are old, soft or poorly stored. AI30 requires 3 mm or smaller pellets. Confirm local supply, delivery frequency and insulated storage before assuming the machine can support a production schedule.

AI30 vs. AI50: A Practical Decision Rule

Choose AI30 when portability, lower air demand and dry-ice-only contamination removal are the priority. Evaluate AI50 when the job needs substantially higher output, a heavier industrial duty cycle or abrasive-ready capability.

This is not a simple “small facility vs large facility” decision. The contamination, required removal rate, compressor infrastructure and process objective matter more than building size.

When AI30 Can Make Economic Sense

AI30 deserves consideration when recurring cleaning can reduce outsourced service dependence, waiting time or manual cleaning effort. Build the economics from your own cleaning frequency, labor, dry ice, compressed air, service cost and downtime. Do not rely on a universal payback period.

Bottom Line

The AI30 is best understood as a portable professional dry ice blaster for light-to-medium industrial contamination removal. It is a strong fit when the job needs a dry process and the available compressed air can support the machine. It is not a substitute for abrasive blasting when the process must remove substantial material or create a surface profile.

Next Step: Evaluate AI30 Against the Alternatives

If your application matches the light-to-medium dry-ice-only use cases above, review the current AI30 product specifications. If you are still deciding between AI10, AI30, AI30 Plus and AI50, use the comparison below.
